About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Liverpool delivered a commanding performance at Anfield, securing a 4-1 victory over Newcastle United in their Premier League clash. This result was largely expected given Liverpool's strong form and Newcastle's struggles with injuries and squad rotation. The match began with Newcastle taking an early lead through Anthony Gordon (GAP -1.3%) in the 36th minute. However, Liverpool quickly responded with Hugo Ekitiké (GAP not listed) scoring twice in quick succession before halftime, in the 41st and 43rd minutes, turning the tide in favor of the home side. In the second half, Liverpool continued to dominate. Florian Wirtz (GAP +0.6%) extended the lead in the 67th minute, showcasing his skill and composure. The final blow came in the 90th minute when Ibrahima Konate (GAP +3.6%) sealed the victory with a well-timed goal. Liverpool's lineup saw two changes from their previous match, with Ibrahima Konate and Hugo Ekitiké coming in for Joe Gomez and Jeremie Frimpong. These changes were strategic, as Gomez was dealing with a knock, and Frimpong was sidelined with a hamstring injury. Newcastle United made four changes, bringing in Dan Burn, Joe Willock, Jacob Ramsey, and Anthony Elanga, while Joelinton, Sven Botman, Yoane Wissa, and Lewis Miley were left out. These adjustments were partly due to injuries and fitness concerns. Key performances came from Mohamed Salah (GAP +4.3%), who, despite not scoring, was instrumental in creating opportunities, and Alisson Becker (GAP +5.9%), whose saves were crucial in maintaining Liverpool's lead. This victory solidifies Liverpool's position in the upper echelons of the Premier League table, enhancing their momentum as they continue to chase the top spots. For Newcastle, the defeat highlights the challenges they face with their current squad depth and injury list, leaving them in need of a turnaround to climb the standings.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
